It was a huge week at 1264 First St.
Attic insulation was finished, priming and painting is 99% complete (touch-ups today), siding is finished and ready for gutters and downspouts, the broken concrete in the garage and on the driveway is gone, forms are built for a new garage floor, the basement drywall is nearly finished, and 95% of the landscaping is done (waiting for cement sidewalk and drive).
Many, many thanks to all of our hardworking volunteers. You have done a terrific job. To our Master Gardeners group, led by Mary Lynn Darr (who is also a ReStore Volunteer) and Pete McCreedy (5th house landscape leader) for the transformation of the yard, and to George Daly for the use of your tractor several times last week, and to Jeff for leading our paint crew (of friends, family, pastor, and new and long time volunteers), to St. Matthew's for another terrific lunch, and all of our regulars - Mike(s), Jim, George, Sharon, Sheri, Anita, John, Art, Keith, Jack, Tim, Gary(s), Cheryl, Rick, Brandon, Lance, Paul, and all who have helped along the way -- THANK YOU!
Our hardwood floors are being sanded this morning in preparation for a new finish, and our kitchen cabinets are being installed tomorrow. We will be pouring cement on Tuesday morning in the garage, and will plan to continue painting wood trim and working on finishing touches Wednesday and Thursday starting at 9:00 am. I hope to have heating, plumbing, and electrical back in to finish install by Friday and Monday, and flooring by next Wednesday. Keep your fingers crossed and join us if you can.
Dedication will be 8:30 am, Saturday, August 14th. Should last about 20 minutes with a tour and refreshments to follow.

Hello,
Last week, Brandon Craft (Porter and Heckman) completed the electrical rough-in and we passed both the electrical and rough construction inspections. The siding is 90% complete, the front porch only needs paint, the rear deck is complete except for steps, and the basement has 2 of 3.5 walls furred out (thanks to a large crew from Masco Bath of Lapeer - black shirts in photo's).
On Friday, Efficient Foam was extremely efficient (since our inspections were completed on Thursday) and spent Friday completing the spray foaming of insulation throughout the house walls and basement walls.
This Tuesday, we are scheduled for insulation inspection and also delivery of drywall. Brian Finnegan expects to begin hanging drywall by Thursday. Also, our regular weekday crew is planning to build basement walls and stairway on Wednesday and Thursday starting about 9:00 am each day.
We will also be installing shutters (donated by Metamora Products) and finishing up misc odd jobs around the house.
Our original volunteer work group for Saturday, July 10th has had to cancel, so we will be working with a smaller crew of whom ever shows up. This will probably be good, since we will be working around the drywaller. We will be closing up the loose ends and odd jobs. Please return an email to our volunteer coordinator if you plan to work on Saturday so plans can be made for lunch. crktholland@aol.com
Stop by 1264 First St. for a look and join us if you can.

Hello Volunteers, Friends and Supporters,
Another great week of great progress on the Habitat House project at 1264 First St in Lapeer. (One block north of Oregon, west 3.5 blocks on First St.)
Our basement repair is finished and looks great. Richard Davis and crew dug deep to the footing around 3.5 sides of the house to reinforce and waterproof the basement walls which were cracked and bowed in about 2 inches. They also installed a new egress window on the west side, and new basement windows all around.
Our Weekday and Saturday crews finished installing Dow foam and housewrap to the exterior and added the last new windows. We also began installing new soffit and facia.
Thanks to Jack Overzet, Mike Foster, Keith Goulait, Sharon, Art, Tim, Mike M., George, Cheryl Holland, and Mike J. for their hard work.
On Saturday, Gary Shindorf installed the ridge vent on the roof, and Jim Hogan, Mike Marcott, Tim Brown, and George Daly assisted Mike Johns in building the front porch deck. Also, Ed Watteny and Gary Sabo finished the exterior insulation, housewrap, and window install with an assist from Art and Dennis.
This Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday, we will continue to work on the porch, roof over the porch, soffitt and facia, and will begin installing siding. We could also use some help with moving dirt and smoothing out the soil around the perimeter of the house which was disturbed during basement repairs. Extra rakes and shovels and a wheel barrow or two would be helpful.
We hope to have the rough plumbing (Lance Gould Plumbing) and rough electrical (Porter and Heckman's Brandon Craft) completed and inspected by Friday so we can get Efficient Foam (John Carlson) insulation sprayed early next week. If that schedule works out, we could begin hanging drywall (with Brian Finnegan) around June 17th or 18th. Our new furnace and ductwork was completed several weeks ago by Hill Heating and Cooling (Paul Hill).
Many thanks to all of our volunteers and supporters. We could not do this without you!
See you on the site for a visit or to volunteer.

Life at 1264 First Street on 6/26/10 as reported by Ed Watteny and Cheryl Holland.
When we arrived at 8:30 Adam and his crew were already hard at work
removing the tree from the back yard. The chipper was parked on the street
and they were cutting and dragging the brush out to it. The tree branches, actual tree and stump are all cleaned up and removed. The chips were taken to the ReStore.
Took most of morning to clean up the trees
Other jobs that got accomplished:
Basement walls all received a coat of "Dry-Lok" waterproofing coating
Railing on front porch was built.
Pile of deck boards in west end of garage were removed.
Bottom 5 1/2" on garage wall siding was cut off.
We got the garage power washed and prepped for paint.
Rick Holland put up the meter can on the outside back corner and it
is ready to have the power line moved over.
Rollers used to paint basement walls are soaking in a 5 gallon bucket
in garage.
The thunderstorms threatened all day and missed us completely, but it sure was warm.

I have updated my contact list in an effort to keep you informed of our 1264 First St progress so some of you may be receiving this contact for the first time. Email me back if you would like to be removed from this list.
Our home project has made great progress since beginning in early April and the last two weeks were super busy. It doesn't look like the same house with it's new overhangs, windows, and roof. We expect to finish siding by the middle of next week and then, except for driveway repairs and landscaping, the exterior will be finished.
On Saturday, we completed the new porch and roof on the house, and with the help of Gary Shindorf and great roofing volunteers from St Paul's Lutheran and the Girl Scout troop brothers and fathers, we removed the old shingles on the garage and totally re-roofed all on Saturday.
Jack Overzet and apprentice Anita Harrand completed the siding along the east side of the house, and family grandsons lined under the porch and deck with landscape fabric and covered the area with pea stone. Grandpa and grandsons also worked to complete most of the posts and railing for the back deck as well.
The Girl Scouts and families served a terrific lunch of hot dogs and brats, salad, fruit, dessert, and refreshments which was welcomed by the 20+ volunteers on site.
So far, we have completed rough inspections for heating and plumbing with electrical and rough construction inspections scheduled for late this week.
Our Efficient Foam installer is poised to come in to insulate the interior walls on about Monday, June 27th, and Brian Finnegan is ready to start hanging wall board right after the insulation inspection (hopefully by June 30 or July 1st).
This Wednesday and Thursday we will stud out the basement in preparation for insulating the perimeter walls and finish the railing and steps on the back deck. We will also work on siding this week through Saturday (weather permitting)with help from the Lapeer County Democratic Party and our regular volunteers.
We start each day at 9:00 am. Join us if you can and thanks for your support and encouragement.

Mike Foster worked on solar tube installation.
Mike Johns donated 2x12's for Pete to build stair stringers to basement.
We reorganized the garage. Garage needs to be emptied for floor removal.
One of the rollers on the west side of garage door is out of it's bracket

Dumpster needs to be repacked. Dishwasher in dumpster came from restore.
St. Paul's is asking what is on the agenda for next Saturday (they are sending a crew).
Ed and Cheryl.
Our plan for this week is to finish Electrical and Plumbing rough-in and pass Rough mechanical inspections and rough construction inspection by Friday June 18th.
At this time, Brandon (electrician) is planning to work all day this Wednesday - so help is needed there. Lance (plumbing) was expecting to be roughed-in last week and should be finished and ready for inspection now.
Next Monday or Tuesday (June 21st or 22nd) we hope to spray foam insulation, pass inspection by Wednesday, and then begin drywall by Friday June 25th.
We will work our usual schedule this Wednesday, Thursday, and Saturday starting at 9:00 am. Join us if you can.
Thanks for your help and have keep having fun.

We have made great progress on our First St project over the last 5 weeks. Our basement repairs are going very well and should be completed this week.
We were able to complete about 90% of the reroof last week in spite of 88 degree weather so the house is now weatherproof except for the roof over the new porch (coming at the end of this week.)
We plan to lay subfloor and finish exterior insulation, housewrap, and window installation this week. We hope to begin installing new soffit and facia, and siding by the weekend.
Join us if you can. We will work on Wednesday June 2 and Thursday, June 3 from about 9:00 am until 2:30 pm each day. We will also work Saturday, June 5 starting at 9:00 am.
Have a great week.
